the worse blogger EVER

I am such a bad blogger that I actually forget that I have a blog until one day I am surfing other bloggers blogs when it dawns on me that I actually have one to work on. I was the same way with a diary and journaling. I always start out withgreat intentions, but quickly I find myself consumed with so many other activities. So I will call this my catchup blog.

It is one week till Christmas and I have done absolutely no Christmas knitting. I was looking through my stash last night thinking I could whip together 4 hats or a couple cowls when my husband put his foot down and knocked some sense into me. "You know you are biting off more than you can chew" You got to love my man. So now it will be some local bottles of wine and something yummy and some garden relish. whew!!

What have I accomplished?

I finished my sweater Girl Friday. YAY!! But Then.... I blocked it, and OMG!!! I Grew and oh Boy did it ever grow. It Grew 4 Sizes. the lower edge reached to my shins, the sleeves were 8 inches longer than my arm. I know.. I know... I should have blocked my swatch. Lessons learned.

I didn't take any time to chew on it much, I decided to rip it out immediately and not give my self too much time to mourn over it all. It was in hind site that I thought that I might have been able to felt it. I'm glad I didn't, because I have my yarn to use on a next project.

Other knitting news.

I have started knitting my drop spindle sweater

I am designing myself for myself. it is going to be an A frame with a zipper with see
d stitch along the edges and each side of the zipper. I am making it a steeking project and have accomplished the first 6 inches. I am still deciding whether to make it raglin or set in sleeves.

I am trying to spin whenever I have a free chance. I carry my spindle everywhere.

Also on needles. I have my first toe up socks. they are too small for me , but my daughter loves them. It is also my first after thought heal. I found it easy and successful.

OMG Has it been that long since I have posted.
Well here is a catch up.
I have been knitting and spinning like a crazy woman. Summer tops and shawls and sweaters so here is my catch up page

My sister came over and taped me up an low and behold a body double. this is a fun way to make a form out of duct tape. All you need is an old tee shirt and a good friend to tape you up. then you cut through the tee shirt and all up the back and re tap it shut. seal the arms and neck and stuff it up . I used old useless fleece to stuff mine and there you have it a form.. oh I used our christmas tree stand to hold it up.

next the knitting progress:
I am spinning yarn from a drop spindle to make a sweater. The progress is slow but rewarding.

here is some complete yarn.

Here are a few summer tops I completed :

here is my Susie Hoodie from Big Girl Knits

Here is some spun merino silk. 8 oz which I navajo plied. and made these fingerless mitts and hat

This is my hubby cooking dinner. I just love this pic so I had to share it:

This is a poncho I made for my friends 4 year old daughter. I gave it to her yesterday and she loved the pom-poms.

Socks that I have pulled out and re knit 3 times. I finally think I have them nailed for the right size and shape.

These alpacas belong to a friend of mine. They are so interesting and beautiful

So other projects I'm currently working on is a shawl oh yes I made my mom a shawl.

3-26-10 finished with the lace part of the flirty tank and have started the upper part of the tank. I switched to size 4 needles because I ended up with 2 extra inches of measurement in the lace width so i will dry making it a little smaller with smaller needles.

I have cast on and completed about 18 rows on my susie jacket. I decided to pick up the yarn at Joannes fabric when I was browsing. I found skeins of natural 100% wool 465 a yard. Fisherman knit wool. Here are pics so far.

I finished the Kelmscott today and I love it. I struggled a little making sense out of the pattern crocheted buttons, but I found an on line site that helped me out. I love how this sweater fits. I will take more pics of me wearing it tomorrow.

I have 4 pattern repeats done on the Flirty tank top. I will work more on that this week.

I have started a lacy tank top for my daughter Y2 knit flirty tank. I have 1/3 of it knitted and I plan on lengthening the lace part by 2 more lace repeats and shorten the upper tank empire section by an inch or two to lift it from the waist to below the boobs. the photo for the pattern seems for shortened and a little long in the upper part. I cant wait to see how it turns out it has been great fun knitting up.

most recent stash aditions

It has been many days since my last post, but I have excuses. I am going on a mission trip with my church to the Dominican Republic. It has been taking up many extra hours and days, but I have been knitting all along.

My Kelmscott is almost complete. I only have one sleeve to seam and put on and then the collar and buttons. I ran out of yarn at the end of my last sleeve with only a 6 inch tail. I sent out an sos and Great Thanks to a ravelry friend who sent me enough yarn to complete my sweater.

New Book

I was out shopping last Friday and my mom and I spent some time at Barns and Nobel and while I was browsing I came across the best Knitters help book ever.. At least in my opinion.... It is a very in depth book with all kinds of knitting information but most of all it is full of information on how to design a sweater. that is exactly what I hope to do. I want to be able to make my own vision and ideas come to life. I just didn't know where to begin. Now I have a Great resource.

It is Vogue Knitting The Ultimate Knitting Book

I stayed home sick today, though it was really more of a recovery day than a sick day. I got the bills done, vacuumed and cooked. My head still sounds bad, but I am much much better.
I was able to work on my kelmscott sweater and it hit me. I just love Love Love knitting lace. I love reading the pattern chart. I love how lace unfolds. I like having to pay attention to every stitch and I love when I get to an end of a row that the stitches match up with the graph. It's coming along nicely. around 10 inched done this weekend.

Birthday

just wanted to mention that yesterday was my birthday and my DMIL sent me some money.. woo Hoo.. I plan on purchasing yarn.. Knitpicks City tweed. I think Snowshoe. I will order it today!

I have finished spinning up 4 oz of merino silk roving on my drop spindle I'm not sure what to do with it but I needed my spindle free for a project of spindle to sweater. I will be using some fiber in my stash.. It is a mountain to climb but I suppose if I just spin in spare time it will get done.

2-7-10 Wow was I slammed down with a cold/flu for the last 3 days. All I could do was laze around with tissue up my nose and moan from my aching head and knit to keep my mind off of my misery. I had to call in sick to church because I am too snotty to sing and play the piano.

While I was down I finished my clogs and felted them in the laundry this weekend. It took about 30 min to felt them down enough to fit. Also I have finished the back of my Kelmscott cardigan. I used short rows on the shoulder decreases and it came out very smooth. I have started on the lace right front panel.. I decided to do them individually so when I get done the right I will cast on the left. I am thinking of casting on the sleeves so that I have a project to bring to work so that I will have something to work on between patient and on lunch break. I have already called in sick to work tomorrow so I will again have some knitting time.

have started to make a new set of clogs and have finished my cable sweater. looking forward to getting more done on my kelmscott.

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Ok So I have decided to begin to spin some yarn for a sweater. as of yet I have not spun enough yarn to knit a sweater with it so this is a big project. I have chosen a fleece that I have had waiting to be spun for about a year now. I sampled it with my drop spindle and I think it will be beautiful now the idea is to spin all the yarn up on my drop spindle in a spindle to sweater. I have chosen a Debbie bliss pattern a cable jacket to make the sweater into. I am excited I just hope i am patient enough to use my spindle instead of the wheel. There will be much satisfaction if I accomplish this.
On a not so fiber note. I got Dance Dance Revolution for the Wii for my Birthday which is in a few weeks. All I can say is What Fun!! and a good workout.

Hello all, my name is Lisa. I live in Vermont. I have 2 cats and a loving husband who supports me in everything I do.
My passion is the fiber arts. I love to knit, spin, and weave, but mostly knitting. Basically if you can make it with yarn I love it. Oh and rug punching as well.

I mostly plan to share my adventures in knitting with a few extras thrown in.

right now I am working on two projects. the cable Luxe Tunic which is a free pattern available through Lion brand, and I have also started the Kelmscott Cardigan available through Twist collective.

The yarn for the cable luxe tunic is Lion brand wool-ease worsted Cranberry . the yarn for the Kelmscott is Angora merino blend purchased at Webbs.com
